A tourist who lost her mobile phone while visiting Dubai was surprised to have it returned to her in her home country of Spain.

The woman initially thought she lost her phone while on safari but upon discovering it had been stolen, reported the theft to Dubai Police from Spain.

According to Lt Col Mubarak bin Nawwas, director of Tourist Police, said the woman was visiting Dubai as part of a trip organized by a tour company.

While on safari, the woman left her bag in the car but her video camera was switched on and caught someone taking her mobile phone, he said.

Dubai Police contacted the tour company and after investigation, the company’s driver was arrested for stealing the phone.

Police returned the phone to her in Spain accompanied by a small gift.

"I would like to thank the Dubai Tourist Police after the incident that took place with me when I was in Dubai. Thanks to their excellent efforts, I prepared my mobile phone. I thank them for their dedication and thank them for the gift," the woman said in a video she shared online.
