Dubai student arrested over 4kg stash of heroin under lorry

The Asian will be charged with possession with intent to sell after allegedly working with a 'cruel and wicked' man overseas who is already wanted in Abu Dhabi for drug dealing.

DUBAI // A 20-year-old Asian man has been arrested for possessing more than four kilograms of heroin.

Col Eid Mohammed Hareb, director of the anti-narcotics department at Dubai Police, said the suspect was a Dubai resident in his second year of university.

“The suspect, A S N, was caught red-handed trying to extract four bags filled with heroin capsules from the sand under a truck parked in Al Murqqabat area,” he said, adding that it was distressing when young men got involved in such criminal activity.

“It’s imperative that families monitor their children’s behaviour. It’s the first line of defence when it comes to protecting them from criminal activity and from the spread of drugs.”

Col Hareb said the suspect was in a “cruel and wicked” relationship with another Asian man, who does not live in the UAE.

“The suspect, A S N, would communicate with the Asian man every now and then, during which the latter would give him instructions,” he said, adding that the man’s latest instructions had been to deliver the four bags of heroin to a third party, unknown to the suspect.

Col Hareb said that it had been discovered during preliminary investigations that the Asian man with whom the suspect was dealing was wanted in Abu Dhabi for dealing drugs.

He said A S N’s case had been transferred to prosecutors after he had been arrested in April.
