Dubai school hosts spectacular Indian Republic Day celebrations

With flashes of colour, traditional dance and parades, the Indian High School marked the occasion in style

Members of the Indian community celebrated the country’s 71st Republic Day at the Indian High School in Dubai on Sunday.

Families and dignitaries watched cultural performance by Indian pupils, followed by the annual republic day parade at the school campus.

The Indian national flag was hoisted by Consul General of India to Dubai, Vipul, at the Indian Consulate. After the flag hoisting, Vipul read out India’s President Ram Nath Kovind's speech to the nation.

Indians in Abu Dhabi celebrated the day at the embassy. Indian Ambassador to UAE, Pavan Kapoor addressed the community and hoisted the country's flag while women performed traditional dance to mark the event.

On this day in 1950, India's constitution came into effect, three years after independence from the British Empire.
