DUBAI // Runners who were unable to compete in a 10-kilometre night race on the Palm Jumeirah because of traffic jams will get their money back, say organisers.

More than 4,700 people signed up to take part in the We Run Dubai – Light Up DXB event organised by the sportswear giant Nike on November 23.

But many were unable to take part because of parking problems, with many others stuck in traffic jams leading to the Palm.

“The majority of people enjoyed the race but, unfortunately, due to traffic issues on the Palm, a number of people could not share this experience with us,” said a spokeswoman for Nike. “For those who could not make it to the race due to traffic, we are offering a full refund of the registration fee.”

Nike said that the Palm was chosen because of its “iconic” location and the night view of the Dubai skyline. The company could not confirm if it would use the island as a venue for future races.

To claim a refund, people are advised to email werundubai@nike.com and provide their bib number.
