Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has spoken about the need for countries and people to evolve or risk falling into degeneration.

He took to Twitter - where he has a following of 8.3 million - to share the wisdom he has gained during his time as Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

Using the Arabic hashtag meaning "what life taught me", Sheikh Mohammed said that it was important to share what he has learnt to pass experiences down to future generations.

"Brothers and sisters, like every summer, I will write from time to time about what we have learnt from our journey in leadership and management, to pass our experience on to future generations."

He said life taught him that change and evolution was crucial above all else.

"Our lives are in constant need for change and the secret of life is in its change and evolution, for even nature changes, sheds its attire and the sky changes its clouds and the sun changes location."

Sheikh Mohammed's tweets come amid political tension in the region and they addressed the need for states to constantly develop as humans do.

"States, like individuals, need continuous growth, development and change. Some governments live in the past, most of them are fighting the present and a few are making (building) the future.

"He who changes not will see his circumstances alter, and he shall dwindle. For the fast train of the world waits not for those who do not evolve. With passing days, he who does not learn will only fall into further degeneration."
