About 80 licence plates will be on offer at the 96th auction organised by the Roads and Transport Authority on  September 30.

The plates to be auctioned at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel will cover three, four and five digits, according to an RTA statement.

Registration of bidders will open on Sunday.

“Open auctions appeal to community members. The wide participation of the public in online or open auctions and the positive competition to obtain these numbers is the reason for holding these auctions,” said Sultan Al Marzooki, the RTA’s director of vehicle licensing.

To qualify, bidders must have a vehicle registered in Dubai or a driver’s license issued from the emirate.  A security cheque of Dh25,000 and participation fee of Dh120 can be paid online or at the RTA’s centres in Umm Ramool, Bur Dubai, Deira or Al Tawar.

After a successful bid, a person has 10 days to pay the amount, Mr Al Marzooki said.

Information can be obtained from the RTA’s call centres on 8009090.
