Dubai RTA cleaner accused of filming women using public bathroom
The man is accused of leaving his mobile phone in the bathroom at Al Jaddaf Marine Transport Stationto record women
A cleaner for the Roads and Transport Authority has been accused of filming female customers and employees while using a public bathroom, Dubai Criminal Court has heard.
The Indian man, 27, denied charges of sexually assaulting a number of unidentified women by recording them as they used RTA bathrooms and told judges that he had accidentally forgotten his mobile phone inside the toilet.
The incident came to light on June 30 this year when an RTA receptionist, 35, from Tanzania, said that she went to use the toilet at Al Jaddaf Marine Transport Station at around 9am and found that a mobile phone had been set to record and fixed pointing towards the toilet seat.
“At first I thought someone had forgotten their phone but when I picked it up I saw that it was recording. I figured that something was wrong so I handed it to the security guard and reported the matter,” said the receptionist.
During police questioning, the accused admitted to deliberately leaving his mobile device inside the toilet but said that he had only done it twice.
“I did it one time a week before I was caught,” the man told police and prosecution investigators.
A verdict will be issued on November 13.
