DUBAI // An online survey of Dubai residents shows that Motor City and The Greens are the top-rated communities.

Both communities scored 4.1 out of five points on FlatReviews.com, according to reviews posted by 2,000 people.

The ratings were also based on 1,000 moving requests in the first quarter of this year made on Movesouq.com, a UAE-based comparison site for home services.

The Arabian Ranches, Jumeirah and DIFC communities scored an average four points out of five. The scores were based on reviews of traffic, access to schools, shops and value for money.

The top rating for Motor City and The Greens was boosted by favourable reviews on traffic, walking paths, a pet-friendly environment, proximity to schools, kindergartens, shops and restaurants.

The lowest rated was International City, with a score of 2.8.

Other communities not rated highly in online reviews include Deira, Tecom, Al Barsha, Bur Dubai and Discovery Gardens.

Based on moving activity, Dubai Marina, Dubailand, Business Bay and Downtown Dubai were popular residential areas.

These communities made up 31 per cent of families moving in between January and March.

Dubai Marina topped the list again for popular residential areas this year, despite not making it on to the top-rated communities chart, according to Movesouq.com and FlatReviews.com.

Lower rents prompted more people to move in to communities on Dubai’s outskirts such as Dubailand and Jumeirah Village, they said.

“These surveys should also indicate how often tenants have to move out due to see-saw rents,” said Cassandra Almeida, a resident of The Greens. “More people should be part of these surveys because only then will it help to point out where the really popular areas are.”
