A police officer who single-handedly arrested two men just hours after they stole a taxi has been honoured by officials.

Mustafa Awad Yehia was promoted for successfully chasing down the suspects and seizing the vehicle.

Maj Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, said the traffic officer spotted the taxi shortly after it was reported stolen.

The policeman, from Sudan, gave chase in his patrol car, eventually forcing the thieves to a stop.

“When I saw the stolen vehicle I followed it and forced it to stop,” he said.

“Both men were stunned and didn’t realise what had just happened until after they were both in handcuffs.”
