Workers in Dubai will be able to share in New Year's Eve festivities this year after being set up with dinner and a show.

Brig Abdullah Al Ghaithi, head of the protective security and emergency department, said Dubai Police, in co-operation with real estate developer Emaar, will install two 7x4 metre televisions in labour accommodation at Al Quoz and Al Qusais. The two TV screens will be broadcasting live the ‘Light Up 2018’ show, which will use Downtown Dubai’s building facades as the backdrop for a light show.

“We are doing this because we want to make them happy, and we want them to have the opportunity to celebrate with us,” he said. “They are very hard working and we are very appreciative of their efforts.

“They will be provided with food and, prior to the festivities, we will be showing entertainment shows, including a cricket game, as well as awareness pieces.”

He said 3,000 meals will be distributed to the crowds.
