DUBAI // A Dubai Police officer was killed while trying to help a woman whose car had broken down on Saturday morning.

Sgt Saleh Musaad Ahmed, in his early 50s, was hit by a vehicle after he left his patrol car to assist the woman on Hessa Street.

“The officer was trying to help a woman whose car was stopped on the side of the road,” said Dubai Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina.

“The officer was standing near the driver’s seat of the patrol car and asking the operations room on his radio for a crane to tow the car, when he was run over.

“He was immediately transported to hospital, where he unfortunately passed away.”

Maj Gen Al Muzeina offered his condolences to Sgt Ahmed’s friends and family, and urged motorists to always take great care.

“Motorists should immediately slow down when they see a patrol car, for their safety and the safety of others,” Gen Al Muzeina said.

Sgt Ahmed’s funeral was at the Mosque Al Quoz cemetery after evening prayers on Saturday.

He was the second police officer to die on duty in Dubai this year. Last month, Sgt Hayan Adel Ali, 24, was killed on Emirates Road while directing traffic.
