DUBAI // An attempt to smuggle 264 kilograms of hashish worth Dh2.5 million has been foiled by Dubai Police.

The hashish was hidden aboard a boat that travelled to the emirate from a neighbouring country, according to Maj Gen Abdul Al Asmawi, head of Dubai's anti-Narcotics Department.

He said the two arrested suspects, aged 27 and 25 from an Asia country, were planning to sell some of the drugs in the UAE and export the rest to another Gulf country.

Acting on a tip-off that a boat in Dubai Creek was carrying hashish, police arrested the first suspect in Naif area. He then led them to the boat in Al Abrat area, where the drugs were seized.

The suspects have been referred to prosecution on charges of possessing, smuggling and dealing drugs.
