Dubai Police campaign to combat Ramadan beggars

Patrols will scour shopping centres, mosques, co-ops and residential areas to root out people taking advantage of the kindness shown during the holy month.

DUBAI // A campaign to tackle begging during Ramadan has been launched by the emirate's police.

Patrols will be at shopping centres, mosques, co-ops and residential areas to monitor people taking advantage of the kindness shown during the holy month.

Col Mohammed Rashid bin Sareea, the campaign's director, said CID had formed more than 20 field teams and patrols to cover all areas of Dubai.

The campaign will be in cooperation with various authorities, including Dubai Municipality, Al Awqaf and immigration, as well as security authorities in other emirates.
