Dubai Municipality on Sunday began distributing 1,000 umbrellas to the public so they could protect themselves from the summer sun.

The Municipality targeted individuals who do not own cars and whose work requires them to walk in the sun, according to Khalid Badri, director of the corporate marketing and relations department.

Omar Al Marri, head of public relations at the Municipality said a team will be handing out umbrellas at metro stations, parks and beach for a few days at peak heat hours.

“Our employees distribute the umbrellas to everyone with a smile by telling them: Dubai Municipality is with you to overcome the heat of the sun because you are in Happy Dubai,” he said.

The campaign is one of the initiatives organised by Dubai Municipality as part of the Year of Giving.
