More than 207 million journeys were made by public transport in Dubai in the first six months of this year, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) - a 15 per cent increase on the same period last year.
However, 24million of the 27million increase was accounted for by the Metro, which was lifted by the opening of the green line to 53million journeys.
Meanwhile, the number of bus journeys fell slightly. Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA executive director, said he wanted mass transit systems to be "the first choice of mobility for commuters in the emirate".
