A woman who knifed a masseuse in the stomach in a fight over a man has had her three-year sentence for attempted murder reduced.

Dubai Criminal Court heard how the Nepalese defendant, 30, attacked her Indian victim on December 20 last year.

The pair had met at a hotel in the city to discuss a boyfriend that both women had been seeing.

But following an argument the attacker pulled out a knife from her purse, stabbing the woman, 33, in the stomach, left arm and fingers.

“She called me two days before we met claiming to be the man’s girlfriend and accused me of being the reason why he left her,” the masseuse told the court.

“She demanded I stop seeing him, talking to him or getting in touch with him in any way.

“So I called him and told him about her. He said that he broke up with her because she caused him many problems.”

The defendant was initially sentenced to three years in prison for attempted murder.

But following an appeal by prosecutors to have the sentence increased, judges instead reduced her prison term to just one year.

The court also ordered that she be deported after serving her sentence.
