A firefighter died while putting out a blaze in Dubai on Tuesday.

Sgt Adel Nasser Saleh was part of a team that was called out to two burning warehouses in Dubai Investments Park at about 4pm. The fire engulfed one of the warehouses completely, causing it to collapse.

Sgt Saleh died trying to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control at about 5.30pm, Civil Defence said. Several teams had been on site and it is understood that a second firefighter was injured.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, paid tribute to Sgt Saleh, sharing his image and saying he was "martyred during his call to duty".

"Precious and valuable civil defence personnel are working to protect lives and the security and safety of our state," he said on Twitter.

"Today, Dubai lost Sgt Adel Nasser Saleh, who was martyred during his call to duty. We ask God to have mercy and to grant his family patience and solace."

His message was shared on Twitter by Dubai Civil Defence.

Tributes soon began to flood in from the public on social media as images of Sgt Saleh and prayers for his family were shared.
