Telecommunications operator to block customers with fake handsets.
Du to block 7,000 mobile phone customers
About 7,000 customers will have their mobile phones blocked in 13 days by telecommunications operator Du.
The company has started to alert customers whose phones have unauthorised International Mobile Equipment Identity (Imei) numbers. The blocking process will begin on May 15 and continue until May 21.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority issued directives to ban duplicate Imei numbers last year. Du's latest move marks the second phase of efforts to block illegal, fake handsets from their network.
