Drunken real estate agent accused of police attack
A drunken real estate agent attacked a man before launching on assault on a police officer called to deal with the incident, a court heard.
Dubai Criminal Court was told that an officer was 'thrown' to the ground after responding to a complaint that a man had been assaulted and subjected to verbal abuse in International City , Dubai, on April 10.
Police sent to the scene found the defendant, a 36-year-old man from Pakistan, in a drunken state.
“It was in block 7 at the Russian cluster, we saw the man who called the police claiming that he was assaulted by the accused. He showed us the redness in his neck and face and that his shirt was all torn up,” said the Emirati policeman, 22.
The police officer said they located the accused with help from the complainant - only to be screamed at and insulted by him.
“We went looking for him with the help of the plaintiff. Just as we found him, he started screaming and insulting us,” said the officer.
The accused allegedly attacked one of the officers and when the policeman tried to handcuff him, he was shoved on the chest and pushed to the ground.
“He hit me on the chest then pushed me several times until he managed to throw me to the ground,” said the policeman, who suffered bruises due to the assault.
The defendant was charged with assaulting a police officer and with consuming alcohol without a license.
“I had some alcohol, its true, but I didn't assault the officer,” the accused said in court.
A verdict is expected on June 28.
