DUBAI // A man got so drunk he fell asleep on a Dubai Metro train thinking it was his home, the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours heard on Tuesday.

The Indian man, D K, 28, said he drank four glasses of whisky at a friend’s house without an alcohol licence.

At 11.15pm on June 11, a police patrol was alerted to the man sleeping inside the train at Al Rashidiya Metro station.

Officers woke D K up but he was unable to stand on his feet.

After a blood test at the police station, he confessed to consuming alcohol at the house of a friend in Jebel Ali.

“I had only four glasses of whisky,” said the defendant, adding that it was not the first time he had drank alcohol without a licence.

“I am guilty,” he said in court. D K was found guilty of consuming alcohol without a licence and was fined Dh1,200.
