A drunk man bit off almost a quarter of his flatmate's tongue as she tried to stop him kissing her, Dubai Criminal Court has heard.

His 28-year-old Kenyan victim was trying to get her mobile phone from the defendant when he suddenly attacked her.

As she fought back, the man bit hard into her tongue, slicing off a large section. The court heard he then hid the piece as the woman ran screaming from the flat.

“I woke up to screams in the house and saw her bleeding heavily on the floor,” said one witness to the alleged assault.

The incident took place on January 24 in shared accommodation in Bur Dubai.

Friends of the victim rushed her to hospital where medics asked where the missing section of her tongue was.

Explaining there was a chance they could reattach the piece, one roommate returned to the flat to try and find it.

Once there, the alleged attacker initially denied knowing where it was, but later admitted he had buried it.

“I left hospital and rushed home where he admitted he had buried the piece in the sand,” the witness told the court.

“I dug it up and hurried back to hospital but it was too late.”

The defendant denies charges of sexual assault, physical assault and consuming alcohol. A verdict is expected on May 16.
