Two drug smugglers were caught in possession of more than 300,000 amphetamine tablets during a police sting.

Dubai Criminal Court heard how the pair were arrested on March 10 this year after officers received an anonymous tip-off.

An undercover policeman arranged to meet with the men near Khalid Lake in Sharjah.

The Iraqi defendant, 28, and his Syrian accomplice, 43, were found to have two suitcases filled 278 plastic bags containing 307,525 pills.

“The men showed fierce resistance when we tried to take them into custody,” a police lieutenant told the court.

Both men denied charges drug possession with intent to supply. A verdict in the case is expected on July 28.
