A drug smuggler on the police wanted list has finally been brought to justice after being caught with a haul of cocaine at Dubai International Airport.

The Pakistani man, 34, was attempting to transport 1.3kg of the illicit substance to Thailand when he was stopped by customs officials at the airport on September 22 of last year.

Police investigations revealed he had been at large since fleeing the UAE when accused of another drugs offence a number of years ago.

“The accused managed to flee the country back then but remained on anti-drug force records for wanted men,” said a policeman.

The man was convicted of smuggling drugs at a hearing at Dubai Criminal Court.

He was handed a ten-year jail sentence, to be followed by deportation, and ordered to pay a Dh50,000 fine.
