Eight drug dealers were arrested carrying 500g of crystal meth in Abu Dhabi.

The gang, made up of three women and five men, all of Asian descent, said they were intending to sell the drug to young people.

Police were tipped off about the gang and formed a team to investigate, locate and arrest the drug dealers, according to Col Tahir Al Dhahiri, Head of the Directorate of Anti-Narcotics in the Criminal Security Sector.

Police ambushed the gang and seized several electronic scales that were used to weigh the drugs, as well as plastic bags which were used to store them. The items were referred to Public Prosecution as evidence to complete legal proceedings against the gang.

During questioning the suspects said the seized drugs belonged to them and that each member of the gang played a role in promoting and selling drugs to young people.

Col Al Dhahiri urged parents to keep a close eye on their children and be wary of the friendships they build. He told parents to keep their children away from people who may be bad influences and protect them from “falling into the nets of drug addiction”.
