A suspected drug dealer, who bit a policeman while he was being arrested, has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Police were tipped off about the Filipino, 42, by someone who allegedly bought crystal meth from him. Police went to arrest the man outside his building in Al Quoz at 4pm on July 4 last year.
He ran after he saw the officers approach him but was caught. As an officer was handcuffing him, the man grew aggressive and attacked him, biting the Emirati policeman's hand.
At Dubai Criminal Court this month, the alleged drug dealer denied charges of physical assault.
He was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison followed by deportation. He was also fined Dh20,000.
He will undergo trial at Dubai Court of Misdemeanours to face a charge of consuming drugs.
