The Dh35 million project will combine the nation's dual two passions, say its creators: cars and shisha.
Drive-in theatre planned for Fujairah
FUJAIRAH // Though their numbers have dwindled to just a few hundred in the US, the future of drive-in theatres could be made under the stars of the desert. The mountains of Fujairah will be the home the UAE's first Arabian-style drive-in theatre, which will combine the charms of a classic American drive-in with the flavour of a Middle East shisha cafe. The Dh35 million (US$9.5m) Arabian Drive-In Cinema was inspired by the two great passions of the UAE, said its creators: cars and shisha.
Families will be able to catch the latest Hollywood, Bollywood and Arabic blockbusters from their privacy of their vehicles with shisha, shwarmah and hamburgers. "We have the weather on our side, but more importantly we have the setting in terms of the Arabia experience," said Mekki Abdulla, the chief executive of Fujairah Media, which owns the project. "We feel we can give a more 1,001 nights kind of feel. Of course, the ultimate goal at the end of the night is to enjoy a good movie."
