Discount scheme for traffic fines in RAK extended for two weeks

The 55 per cent discount period will now run until December 2

A 55 per cent discount on traffic fines earned in Ras Al Khaimah will be extended for two weeks, police said on Wednesday.

The discount was first announced on November 1 in celebration of the seventh anniversary of Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi’s accession to Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

It was scheduled to end on November 15 but has been extended until December 2 to celebrate National Day and the Year of Zayed.

All fines incurred in the emirate – except fines for impounded vehicles - will be reduced if paid through the Ministry of Interior smartphone application between November 1 and 15.

“There were 22,120 fines paid during the first nine days, it’s the highest discount rate declared in the Emirate on traffic fines,” said Maj Gen Ali Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of RAK Police.

In Sharjah, police are celebrating their golden jubilee by offering a 50 per cent discount on all traffic fines between October 19 and December 31.

Like in RAK, fines incurred in Sharjah must be paid using the Ministry of Interior smartphone application to benefit from the discount.

Motorists will also be able to cancel any black points on their licences earned before October 18, but must visit the Sharjah Traffic Department to take advantage of that service.
