A traffic discount campaign slashing fines for motorists by 30 per cent in Ras Al Khaimah has been extended until the end of the month.

RAK Police first rolled out the initiative on October 7 as part of the emirate's ongoing Year of Zayed celebrations.

The cash-saving scheme includes all motoring fines issud by radar, dating back at least 81 days from the October 7 start date.

Maj Gen Ali Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of RAK Police, said the discount will reduce the financial burden on drivers.

It is the latest pocket-friendly move announced by police in the emirate.

In September, the RAK force revealed that registration, renewal and ownership transfer on electric vehicles will be exempt from charges until December 31, 2021.

It is all part of an ongoing effort to increase the use of electric cars in the emirate and cut down on fuel consumption.
