The Dubai Public Prosecution has referred Saleh Al Dhufairi to the Federal State Security Prosecution in Abu Dhabi on a charge of threatening state security.
The state news agency WAM said the move by the prosecutor Essam Al Humaidan was based on article 99 of the state constitution, which grants jurisdiction to the Federal Supreme Court in cases where a threat to the country's internal and external security is suspected.
Mr Al Dhufairi was arrested last week after the authorities received information that he was using the social networking website Twitter to "stir sedition and abuse religion". He is alleged to have used the site to incite members of the public to undertake acts that pose a threat to state security.
The Dubai Public Prosecution arrested him on suspicion of abusing religion to harm social peace and of using the internet to provoke acts threatening public order.
