More than Dh40million worth of the drug crystal methamphetamine has been seized in what police say is the largest drugs haul of the year.
Two hundred and thirteenkilograms of the drug were found hidden inside engine parts on-board a wooden ship travelling towards Dubai last month.
Workers along Sharjah Creek had reported the ship after becoming suspicious over seven pieces of heavy equipment that were not registered as part of the vessel's shipment.
In an operation named Spirit of the Union drugs officers followed the ship as it headed to Dubai on October 12. They found the drugs wrapped in bags inside the engine parts. Each bag weighed at least 30kg.
The ship's six crewmen were arrested, along with two other men suspected of providing logistical support.
