DUBAI // A medical research charity has received a Dh10 million donation from the Al Rostamani Group.

The Al Jalila Foundation will use the money to fund medical research, scholarships and health care to those who cannot afford it.

“Through this forward-thinking grant, the contribution of Al Rostamani Group will help us to make unprecedented progress in understanding today’s health problems and developing tomorrow’s novel solutions,” said Raja Easa Saleh Al Gurg, the chairperson of the foundation’s board of directors.0

“Through continued support from our generous donors we will relentlessly pursue, discover and apply new knowledge that can save and touch lives in all walks of life.”

In gratitude, the foundation will name a lecture hall at its home in Mohammed bin Rashid Academic Medical Centre after the Al Rostamani group’s late founder, Abdullah Hassan Al Rostamani.

The foundation was set up three months ago by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who named it after his youngest daughter.

The charity had set out to raise Dh100 million by the end of the year and had already reached Dh60 million before the latest donation.

“By contributing in our own small way, I sincerely hope to motivate other philanthropists to join this movement for medical innovations so that the UAE can make a profound mark on the medical world,” said Marwan Abdullah Al Rostamani, the chairman of Al Rostamani Group.

Dr Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama, the chief executive of Al Jalila Foundation, said the not-for-profit organisation wanted to lay the groundwork for medical treatments by investing in research.
