Death sentence for cousins who killed Omani on hunting trip

Two Emirati cousins who killed an Omani during a hunting trip have been sentenced to death.

ABU DHABI //‎Two Emirati cousins who shot a Omani during a hunting trip have been sentenced to death.

The Criminal Court found ND and MD guilty of murder, but cleared a third cousin, HD, of the same charge.

The trio said they were on a hunting trip in the Omani desert in early January when a Toyota Hilux carrying some Omani passengers began pursuing their Landcruiser.

Passengers in the Hilux threw rocks at the Landcruiser before one of them took out a pistol and fired it into the air.

According to the Emirati brothers, they did the same, with one of the brothers firing a warning shot back at the Omanis. However, the shot hit one of the passengers in the head, killing him instantly.

The judge ordered the car to be confiscated and referred the compensation law suit to the Civil Court.

Under UAE law, all death sentences are subject to automatic appeal at both the Appeals Court and the Cassation Court.
