Abu Dhabi car owners have until 31 January to replace their old licence plates or risk penalties.
Deadline for replacement of old Abu Dhabi licence plates
ABU DHABI // Drivers with old car licence plates are being asked to visit the service centres of the Abu Dhabi Police's vehicle and drivers licensing department to replace them.
Vehicle owners have until January 31 to replace the plates, and the process applies to both valid and expired registration. Number plates which are unclear should also be replaced.
The number plates registered with categories 6, 7, 8 and 9 are considered old and need to be replaced. It does not apply to those with plates in categories 10, 11 and 12.
Lt Col Suhail Al Khaili, director of the car licensing section at Abu Dhabi Police, said the initiative ensures the standardisation of licence plates to conform with international quality.
The new plates look better, the numbers are clearer and the security features have been enhanced to prevent forgery and theft, he said.
He urged vehicle owners to take action before penalties come into effect.
