Cyclist dies after being run over in Ras Al Khaimah

It is the second run-over incident involving a cyclist in the emirate in the past three months

A cyclist died after being run over by a truck in Ras Al Khaimah.

On Sunday, the Pakistani man, 35, was cycling ahead of the heavy vehicle, that was being driven by a man of Asian origin. The truck driver said he did not see the cyclist and accidentally hit him.

Police were alerted to the incident at 9pm and an ambulance was dispatched. The cyclist suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Saqr Hospital.

Police called on drivers to be vigilant and to double check for cyclists before changing lanes.

In October, a 41-year-old Asian cyclist was run over by a large lorry in Ras Al Khaimah. The man was cycling ahead of the vehicle on a main road and the lorry driver hit him as he was taking a right turn. The cyclist died of his injuries.
