A cyclist has died after being run over by a large lorry in Ras Al Khaimah.

The Asian man, 41, was cycling ahead of the vehicle on a main road in the northern emirate when the lorry driver, 34, took a right turn on to a side street. As he turned, he hit the cyclist.

Police were called at 9am and an ambulance was dispatched. Col Walid Kanfsh, chief of Al Mamoura station, said the cyclist was seriously hurt in the accident and was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

“His body was handed over to his family for burial and the case has been referred to prosecutors for legal action,” he said.

Col Kanfsh called on motorists to drive carefully and be mindful of cyclists.
