DUBAI // Two men suffered serious injuries in a car crash last night near Global Village.

The men, both Indian, had to be cut out from their wrecked vehicle by rescue crews after the smash at 10pm on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, formerly Emirates Road.

The accident was caused when one vehicle suffered a burst tyre, causing traffic to slow. One driver then attempted to cut across several lanes onto the hard shoulder.

The victims - a driver and passenger - ploughed into the back of a car that was forced to brake suddenly.

"The crashed car had to be cut open to free the two men," a police spokesman said. "They suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to Rashid Hospital."

The spokesman said the rescue operation took around an hour, and there were no other injuries occurred in the crash.
