A woman won custody of her son from her ex-husband who allegedly threatened to kill her after abandoning them both and filing for divorce from his home country.

The couple married in 2014 before moving to Dubai where the woman and child spent several days alone and unaware of her husband’s whereabouts, Dubai Personal Status Court was told.

After the man abandoned the 26-year-old woman and their child the unemployed woman of Arab origin was forced to live with her parents in Dubai.

Her 29-year-old husband then filed for divorce from his home country, where he works as an armed forces pilot.

According to court records, the woman’s attempt to reconcile via Skype-call in February this year turned sour when her husband threatened to kill her and his mother used foul language to insult her.

It was then she filed a criminal report against him through legal consultant, Hassan Elhais of Al Rowad Advocates.
Dubai Family prosecution are still investigating the case and the names of the husband and mother have been circulated at police stations and airports for issuing death threats and insults.
The family guidance council held several sessions for an amicable settlement which the husband did not attend.

The court then ordered the woman be divorced from her husband and he pay her Dh50,000 as delayed dowry - a mandatory payment in Islam promised by the groom to his bride at the time of signing their marriage contract.
The woman was awarded custody of her son, and the court ordered the father pay her Dh1,700 monthly in alimony.
