ABU DHABI // A man accused of "lightly beating" his wife told a court she made up the allegation because she was annoyed he planned to marry a second woman.
IG, from Pakistan, was said to have pulled his first-wife's hair and pushed her against a wall. He was charged with "lightly beating" her because her injuries did not require more than 20 days of treatment.
He denied assaulting her, saying she made up the allegation to spite him.
"She complained because I want to marry a second wife," he told the judge.
The man said that he wanted a second wife because his first wife could not have children.
A verdict was scheduled for May 19.
