Woman lured into UAE with better job raped and forced into prostitution, court told

A woman entered the country with the promise of a job as a maid was raped by three men, hears court.

DUBAI // A woman who arrived in the country expecting to start work as a maid was instead locked up and raped by three men, a court heard today.

Two men met her at Dubai International Airport and took her to an brothel in Naif where she was raped and told she would have to work as a prostitute. She escaped by attracting the attention of a passerby when her pimps tried to move her to another property.

The Criminal Court heard yesterday that the woman had taken loans from her family to cover her visa and plane ticket costs so that she could come to the country, believing she would work for three Bangladeshi men.

She arrived in the country on December 15 last year. Two men took her to the brothel where she saw three women prostituting themselves. She was then pushed into a room by one of the Bangladeshis JA, 33, who raped her. MA, also 33, then entered the room and raped her. She was then locked in the room until the next morning when one of the women told her she too would have to prostitute herself.

She was then moved to another flat by the two Bangladeshis and their compatriot PD, also 33, and promised that she would now be taken to another house where she would work as a maid. But instead she was raped by a third man, whose identity she did not know.

When the men were trying to move her to another house the woman started screaming for help and a passerby came over to investigate. The men accompanying her fled.

Police arrested JA, MA and PD and charged them with human trafficking.

In court they did not enter a plea as they did not have a lawyer.

The next hearing was scheduled for April 25 to appoint a lawyer.
