DUBAI // A woman was today sentenced to six months in jail for prostitution, but cleared of human trafficking.
The Criminal Court acquitted the 41-year-old Georgian KO of forcing the tourist DY, a 30-year-old from Turkmenistan, into prostitution, but ruled that KO was guilty of prostituting herself. It also ruled she should be deported following the completion of her prison term.
The tourist said she had been taken by a driver to the woman's flat after arriving at Dubai Airport, though it was not clear how the two women knew each other. At the flat, the tourist said she saw five girls who were working as prostitutes and that KO told her that she too would need to work as a prostitute to repay visa fees covered by KO.
The tourist said she agreed to go to a nightclub to meet clients, but that when she arrived at the club she escaped, jumped into a taxi and headed to the nearest police station.
