Woman hired as maid was sold for sex, court told
DUBAI // A young woman lured from Bangladesh to work as a maid found herself "imprisoned" in a flat where she was raped and hired out as a prostitute, a court was told yesterday. Three Bangladeshi men - JA, 38, MS, 29 and MD, 28 - appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance charged with human trafficking, illegal confinement and holding the alleged victim captive through violence and threats.
JA was further charged with raping the 20-year-old woman after he picked her up from Dubai International Airport. All three denied the charges. Prosecutors said some details of the woman's alleged ordeal had been held back on the instructions of the Advocate General because they were too graphic to be made public. The presiding judge, Fahmy Mounir, adjourned the trial until March 3. firstname.lastname@example.org
