ABU DHABI // An Emirati woman accused of driving recklessly, running over pavements and not stopping when police ordered her to has told a court that heavy football traffic at the time would have made her alleged offences impossible.
At the time, she said, the UAE and Lebanon were playing a football match at the nearby Al Nahyan stadium.
"The roads were extremely congested," FH told the appeals court yesterday. "There is no way I could have carried out all of those violations with that amount of traffic."
There was a Mawaqif employee directing cars to drive on the road and ease congestion, her lawyer said.
The judge said to FH: "You shouldn't view yourself as above everyone else - this is not the ethics of Muslims.".
A verdict will be announced on June 10.
