Woman accused of helping Dubai torture dad gives birth in prison

Girlfriend accused of helping to torture and kill one of her boyfriend's daughters failed to appear in court today because she was giving birth.

DUBAI // A woman accused of helping to torture and kill one of her boyfriend's daughters failed to appear in court today because she was giving birth.

The 27-year-old Emirati AM was expected to attend a hearing the Criminal Court along with the girl's Emirati father HS, 29, but could not because she was giving birth to a baby boy, according to prison sources.

The couple are accused of burning the man's two daughters - Wadeema, 8, and Mira, 7, with irons, cigarettes and boiling water in their studio apartment in International City.

They are also said to have beaten them with sticks, electrical wires and bars as well as shocking them with an electric stun gun. When Wadeema died from her injuries, she was wrapped in a white cloth and buried in the desert in Sharjah.

Yesterday's hearing was expected to include testimony from the man's surviving daughter Mira.

The father has denied all charges except for hiding his daughter's body. The girlfriend has confessed to all charges.

The next hearing was scheduled for November 7.
