DUBAI // An unemployed man who stole 15 sheep and kept 10 of them at his sister's house in Al Rashidiya has been jailed for a month.

Iranian PS stole the sheep from Emirati farm owner MH and sold five of them at the Dubai livestock market for Dh450 each, the Court of Misdemeanours was told.

However, PS claimed that he had bought the sheep in August last year and only confessed to police after they beat him and threatened that he would remain in jail. The court did not take any action over his claim.

"I went to meet him [the sheep owner] in Al Aweer and then went to a farm where I took the sheep and paid him Dh7,200 for them," said PS.

Another Pakistani man, SH, 28, who bought the sheep from PS, was fined Dh1,000 for possessing stolen goods.

SH told prosecutors that he worked at the Dubai livestock market in Al Qusais and had bought the livestock from PS not knowing that they were stolen.
