UAE tourist jailed for attacking and insulting security guard

Drunk Briton assaulted and insulted Palestinian security guard after being asked to leave the Irish Village in Dubai.

DUBAI // A drunk tourist who attacked a security guard then flashed his middle finger at him was sentenced to a month in prison to be followed by deportation.

Briton, LK, 24, admitted at Dubai Misdemeanors Court to a charge of drinking alcohol but denied committing an indecent act in public.

Prosecutors said that on July 13 at around 6pm, LK went to the Irish Village in Garhoud with friends where he drank alcohol.

When he was asked to leave after complaints from other customers, he assaulted Palestinian security guard MY, 27. When the guard's colleague, MS, tried to intervene, LK insulted and threatened them both, records said.

"He tried to punch me with his fist, then when he failed he kicked me," said MY, who called police.

When officers arrived to apprehend LK, he flashed his middle finger at MY.

MS, testified that LK assaulted the security guard, insulted him and flashed his finger at him at the presence of police officers.

MS said the guard tried to make LK and his friends leave after complaints that he was annoying and harassing other customers.

"When MY asked him to leave, he suddenly attacked him," said MS.

LK was convicted of drinking alcohol and committing an indecent act publicly. He was also fined Dh1,000.
