DUBAI // Two men who used fake CID cards to trick their kidnapping victim into their car have been sentenced to two years in prison.

The Pakistanis NM, 45, and MA, 34, approached a Bangladeshi carpenter on February 8 this year. After forcing him into the car, they drove to Jebel Ali, stole Dh3,000 and two mobile phones from him and left him there.

"When they drove away, I memorised their car's licence plate number," the carpenter told Dubai Criminal Court. Police were able to trace the men using the licence plate number. When they were arrested, police found 12 stolen mobile phones in their possession.

The pair will be deported after completing their jail terms.
