DUBAI // Two men were sentenced to three years in prison each this morning for offering and receiving about Dh80,000 in bribes in return for falsifying information on electronic applications at the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department.

A 34-year-old Egyptian clerk, HM, offered the bribes between October 2010 and January 2011 to AR, an Emirati corporal at the DNRD in return for illegal favours, the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance ruled.

The court also fined the men Dh80,000 each and ordered the deportation of HM after serving his prison term.

AR, who worked at the entry permits section, requested and accepted bribes to illegally finalize and approve applications.

AR also forged electronic files for people, deleting Dh116,200 in fines.

Prosecutors said HM paid AR between Dh500 and Dh6,000 for each operation.
