DUBAI // Two men were accused this morning of permanently disabling two workers during an attempted theft.

AK, 21, and HE, 46, both unemployed Emiratis, are charged in the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance with attacking the men while trying to steal their wallets in December 2009.

Prosecutors said that about 2.30am on December 24, AK and HE entered the home of AA, 32, and SM, 49, both Bangladeshi salesmen, in Al Satwa area. HE said he was a Dubai Police criminal investigation officer and ordered the two men and three of their roommates to present IDs and wallets, records show.

AK then walked into the room and repeated his accomplice’s order before taking a knife from his trousers and attacking AA and SM, records show.

He caused a 14-centimetre wound on AA's left arm, leaving him five per cent disabled, a forensics report showed. SM's arm also was hurt, leaving him with a 20 per cent disability, prosecutors said.

The next hearing will be on June 6 to summon the defendants.
