Dubai // A tourist denied assaulting a taxi driver in a dispute over the fare, a court heard this morning.

The Briton JC, 29, was said to have punched the Jordanian YA to the ground during the argument on March 7 last year, leaving him with a permanent injury to his arm.

"I'm not guilty," JC told Judge Mahir Salamah at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance. He also denied insulting the driver and stealing Dh600 from him.

According to the prosecution JC paid the disputed fare, but insulted the driver while doing so. The argument continued and JC then punched YA, who fell to the ground, breaking his left arm. JC then took the money.

A forensics report said YA had been left with a five per cent disability in his arm.

The next hearing will be on March 14.
