Tourist gang-raped in Dubai, court hears
DUBAI // A female tourist who accepted an invitation to a party was assaulted, gang raped and robbed by her hosts, a court heard today.
TT, a 24-year-old from Vietnam, said she was in Dubai Mall last year with some friends when she met MA, 19, a Pakistani student.
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance was told the two exchanged phone numbers and MA called her a few minutes later to invite her to a party at his apartment. They agreed to meet around 3am on October 20 in the car park of the Moscow Hotel in Dubai so he could give her a lift.
But after MA picked her up in his Toyota Corolla, he allegedly drove her to a deserted spot where two other defendants - OK, 19, and AS, 21, both unemployed Emiratis - were waiting.
There, TT told prosecutors, OK and AS restrained her while MA raped her. When he finished, he restrained her and the other two raped her for almost an hour.
All three used protection during the rape, she said.
Prosecutors said the three men told TT they wanted Dh 5,000 to stop hurting her and return her purse and passport.
She persuaded them to take her to her residence so she could get the money. There, she managed to run away - leaving her purse which she said contained Dh 1,700 and an iPhone.
TT managed to memorise the car registration number and the men were apprehended and charged with rape and robbery.
All three denied the charges before presiding judge Hamad Abdul Latif.
A policeman told the court that when they arrested the defendants, they admitted during interrogation to having sex with her in the back seat of the Toyota. However, they insisted they met TT in the Moscow Hotel car park and agreed with her to have sex in return for money.
He said they also admitted an assault charge, saying she had refused to have sex with the third defendant claiming her agreement was to only have sex with two.
"They said they assaulted her to silence her as she was screaming," said the policeman.
The next hearing will be on April 5.
